A bit of celebration was called for at the Albuquerque, New Mexico, cluster of dog shows, May, 2013. (In chairs, left to right are Yacht and Shrimp; on ground is Frigate).
Dr. Gail Clark’s Portuguese Water Dog Shrimp Earned her UDX Legs Number 7 and Number 8. Her young PWD boy Frigate won a Rally Leg and has taken two breed Reserves in Conformation.
Karen Nutter’s PWD Yacht took First Place in Utility A to earn her fist UD Leg.
Gail is celebrating Dr. John Watson’s theory
“Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I’ll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select–doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief, and, yes, even beggarman and thief, regardless of his talents, penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations, and race of his ancestors. I am going beyond my facts and I admit it, but so have the advocates of the contrary and they have been doing it for many thousands of years.” –John B. Watson, Behaviorism, 1930
Gail’s corollary: “I will shape them to be a doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief, and, yes even a SHOW DOG!”
